Karambir Singh Kang paid a heavy price for his bravery in last year’s Mumbai attacks. The general manager of the Taj Palace Hotel was in the middle of the chaos when gunmen rushed in firing assault rifles and throwing grenades. And while he was able to shepherd guests to safety, he could do nothing to protect his family.
His wife and two sons were killed in the attacks. Today, the Taj has been all but rebuilt, and Mr Kang is back at his post. Dressed in a well-cut suit, a tie and pocket handkerchief adding colour to the sombre cloth, he is all business.
