After nearly two years, the newspaper wing of The Washington Post Company saw profit in the fourth quarter of 2009. But the newspaper report loss for the entire year.
The daily circulation of the newspaper has declined to 5.9 percent in 2009 and weekend circulation dropped 4.9 percent. The revenue through advertisement dropped 9 percent in the quarter from the previous year, the same period. The company had done a major cost cutting program and had boosted the paper back from loss.
The company has cable subsidiaries that has its major customer from Gulf states. The company has six television stations and magazines under its roof.
