The singing helps the stroke victims to get back their speech. A top neurologist said making the stroke victims sing words instead of speaking helps them. A professor named Gottfried Schalaug helped the patient of stroke lesion was asked to recite the birthday poem.
The patients could only way to say n and o but he was able to sing the birthday song clearly. The patient’s left hand was held by another volunteer while singing. Another patient who was having a large lesion was also made to sing. The stroke patients who were made to sing were sing brain had a development in their functional and structural parts. The therapy of singing is called as music intonation therapy (MIT).
The stroke patients need not be trained singers to undertake this therapy. The MIT treatment can take 14 to 16 years depending on patients. The benefits are very perm ant and two thirds of patients have undertaken this treatment. After the therapy 100 words are taught to say by the patients. Multi sensory experience is felt by the music therapy and is capable of activating different parts of the brain.
