The naval base of china which will be set up in Seychelles has been created a lot of tensions across Indian ocean. Last week when the Seychelles government had announced about the invitation given for China to have military base. The military presence of china in Mahe would be helping to prevent the attack of the pirate which happens regularly. The Chinese government however has downplayed towards the reports as given by Seychelles by saying it will be providing supplies and fuel.
There has been a lot of ships from china which are engaged in the anti piracy operations especially in the southwestern Indian ocean. In spite of all these the apprehensions still remains and the foothold of Beijing may be more gained in Seychelles. The main objective of china naval strategy in Indian ocean will be having some strong relationship along with the Indian ocean littorals. The littorals are the key points which are at the sea lanes which had bought the attention of the strategy.
There has already china’s presence in Gwadar in Pakistan ,Chittagong in Bangaladesh,Hambantota in Sri Lankha. The perception still remains that China has been trying to occupy India in many ways as possible. Indian analysts feel that the looming threat has been found in naval presence of china and in the s ecurity of India. However in-spite of all these the naval capacity of China may not have a permanent presence in the Indian ocean.
